“God tries to ruin happy couples” is something I believed was a misconception until I heard that Shefali Jariwala passed away at the age of 42. In the era where giving divorce or breaking up has become a Bollywood trend, this couple stood like rocks, but God had another plan. When everything between the lovely couple was going good, destiny had something else in store. Just a few days ago, on June 27, 2025, the news of the “Kaanta Laga” girl shook the nation. Doctors said her heart suddenly stopped with no prior symptoms. Our hearts are broken, being just a far side watcher; I cannot even begin to think of the pain Parag, Shefali’s husband, must be going through.

Parag Tyagi shared his first deeply emotional tribute post with a serene picture of Shefali, seven days after her demise. The caption began with him writing, “Shefali, meri ‘pari – the ever-eternal Kaanta Laga girl.”
The reason behind calling her “The Eternal Kaanta Laga” girl is because Shefali exploded onto our TV screens in 2002 with her iconic remix video “Kaanta Laga“. Without the internet, she still managed to rule the nation’s heart. The song — including Shefali — became an overnight sensation. The impact was so immense that even people born in the late 2000s have grooved to it. Shefali was captivating, catchy, and next-level pretty in the song. There was also this funny — now bizarre—rumour back then: that the girl in the video had cancer because of her tattoo. Yes, you heard that right. There was no internet back then, yet somehow most of us have heard this rumour. Like, how on earth was that even possible? Shefali clarified it many times, but millennials didn’t want to let it go.
With all that fame, she was also shamed for her bold appearance. But thankfully, she didn’t care. In a podcast with Paras, her fellow Bigg Boss contestant, she once shared, “I want the world to know me as the Kaanta Laga girl till the day I die.”

Shefali, in many of her podcasts, would often say that nobody could bear her tantrums except Parag. She also mentioned, “Every day is like Valentine’s Day for us.” Before Parag, Shefali was married to Harmeet Singh (of Meet Bros). Their relationship went through a difficult divorce in 2009.
Then entered Parag, who helped her overcome her past challenges. They dated for four years before getting married in 2014. Shefali often spoke about how Parag spoiled her with love and affection. On the other hand, Parag publicly expressed his pride in being known as “Shefali Jariwala’s husband”.
Not many know that Parag and Shefali were part of “Nach Baliye” twice—first in Season 5, where Parag proposed to her on the show, and later in Season 7 as a married couple. They were such a fun jodi to watch—full of laughter, love, and genuine moments. Unlike many others, they were refreshingly real on screen, and that’s what made them so special.
