Winter Olympics 2026: Snowing in Milano Affects Many Athletes’ Performance

Korea’s Koo Kim is now in first place, and Canada’s Du Breuil follows in second place. Italy’s Di Stefano is now in first place. Japan’s Yamada follows. Hungary’s M.S. Kim is in fourth place. Netherland’s Dombek follows, and Poland’s Kania is in twelfth place position. But there is a tie between Germany’s Klein and Belgium’s Voste. During the second half, Netherland’s Nuis is in first place. Japan’s Nonomura is in sixth place. Netherland’s Wennemars is now in first place. China’s Lian Z. is in seventh place. USA’s McDermott-Mustowy is in sixth place. China’s Ning Z. is now in first place position. USA’s McCleod slows down. Germany’s sonnekalb is in ninth place. USA’s J. Stolz is now in first place and Netherland’s De Boo is in second place. Poland’s Zurek is in fourth place, followed by Estonia’s Liiv. Wennemars had to re-skate to improve his score because of issues, and he made it into fifth place. USA’s J. Stolz wins Gold, Netherland’s De Boo wins Silver, and China’s Ning Z. wins Bronze.

Women’s Double Luge:  Poland’s Pomowics/Piwkowska is in first place, followed by Ukraine in second. USA’s Forgan/Kirby is now in first place, before Latvia’s Robezniece/Bogdanova takes over first place. Austria’s Egle/Kipp takes over first place. Germany’s Dajana Eitberger/Magdalena Matschina takes over first place. Italy’s Andrea Voetter/Marion Oberhofer takes over first place position. In the end, Italy’s Andrea Voetter/Marion Oberhofer wins Gold, Germany’s Dajana Eitberger/Magdalena Matschina wins Silver, and Austria’s Selina Egle/Lara Michaela Kipp wins Bronze.

Men’s Snowboarding Halfpipe Qualifying in Run 1: The top 12 will go to the Finals. Australia’s Scotty James is in first place and Japan’s R. Yamada is in second place. USA’s C. Josey is in ninth place position. After Switzerland’s Hostler, USA’s J. Pates falls, which puts him in thirteenth place. Germany’s C. Lechner also falls. China’s Wang Z. is in ninth place. Korea’s Lee C performs. This competition will continue on Friday.

Men’s Double Luge: Italy’s Emanuel Rieder/Simon Kainzwaldner wins Gold, Austria’s Thomas Steu/Wolfgang Kindl wins Silver, and Germany’s Tobias Wendl/Tobias Arlt wins Bronze. USA’s Marcus Meuller/Ansel Haugsjaa come in sixth.

Ice Dancing Free Dance: Czech’s Mrazkova and Mrazkova are in first place, Canada’s Lauriault and Le Gac take over first place position and Czech’s Taschlerova and Taschlerova (brother and sister) follow in second place. Georgia’s Davis and Smolkin are now in first place, but Finland’s Turkkila and Versluis soon take over first place position. USA’s Carriera and Ponomorenko are now in first place position. Spain’s Smart and Dieck are now in first place. Canada’s Lajoie and Lagha follow in second place. Lithuania’s Reed and Ambrulevicius are now in first place. USA’s Zingas and Kolesnik move into first place, before France’s Guignard and Fabbri are in first place. Great Britain’s Fear and Gibson performed a cute and fun performance, but they came in fourth place. France’s Fournier Beaudry and Cizeron won Gold, USA’s Chock and Bates won Silver, and Canada’s Gilles and Poirier won Bronze.

Men’s Super-G: France’s Allegre goes down to second place, when USA’s Cochran-Siegle is in first place. Switzerland’s von Allmen takes over first place. Italy’s Franzoni is in fifth place. Switzerland’’s Odermatt is in third place. Italy’s D. Paris falls because the slope is too bumpy, and he loses his skis. Austria’s V. Kriechmayr is in seventh place. Switzerland’s Franjo von Allmen wins Gold, USA’s Ryan Cochran-Siegle wins Silver, and Switzerland’s Marco Odermatt wins Bronze.

Sweden beats Italy in hockey, 5 to 2.

Thursday, February 12, 2026 is Darwin Day. But just in time for Valentine’s Day on February 14th, love suddenly appears in Milano, Italy. After Breezy Johnson’s sudden crash in a race, her boyfriend proposed to her and she accepted.  Norwegian Biathlete Sturla Holm Laegreid revealed online that he cheated on his girlfriend. This confession went viral, where many internet people took sides. But his ex-girlfriend still cannot forgive him, even though he wants her back because he still loves her.

Men’s Moguls Final 2 and Freestyle Skiing with the Top 8 Skiers: Australia’s J. Harvey is in first place, but Canada’s J. Viel takes over first place position and USA’s N. Page is in second place position. Japan’s I. Horishima is now in first place, Sweden’s W. Wallberg is in second place, and Australia’s M. Graham is in third place. Canada’s M. Kingsbury is now in first place, but Australia’s C. Woods takes over first place position. Australia’s Cooper Woods wins Gold, Canada’s Mikael Kingsbury wins Silver, and Japan’s Ikuma Horishima wins Bronze.

Team Relay Luge Final: This event format is a team event, involving singles and doubles with men and women. The luge sleds include one single woman, two double men on top of each other, one single man, and two double women on top of each other. A Ukrainian male member was disqualified because he promoted messages on his helmet about murdered Ukrainian people during the war. Ukraine is in first place, which puts China in second place. USA takes over first place. Latvia is now in first place. Austria moves into first place position and Italy is in second place. Germany is in first place. Germany Team wins Gold, Austria Team wins Silver, and Italy Team wins Bronze.

As I watch the Winter Olympics, I notice it is snowing in Milano during nighttime hours. It is daytime hours in Irvine, California, and the weather is mild, usually warm in seventies and eighties, but sometimes intermittent raining and cool temperatures in fifties and sixties.

In Hockey, Canada beats Czechia, 5 to 0.

Women’s Halfpipe Final: Each female performs 3 Runs, and the best Run score is used as their final score. China’s Wu Shaotong is in first place position. Japan’s Mitsuki Ono moves into first place, but USA’s Bea Kim falls on her landing. Canada’s E. Hosking falls, although she was performing well. Spain’s Queralt C. falls. Korea’s Choi Ga-On falls on the hard icy pipe. But she got up on her own. China’s Cai X. is in second place, before Japan’s Rise Kudo takes over second place position. USA’s Maddie Mastro falls. Japan’s Sara Simizu performs Double Cork 180 trick and falls. USA’s Chloe Kim is in first place position. In Run 2, Japan’s Mitzuki Ona falls. USA’s Bea Kim is in fourth place and Japan’s Sena Tomita is in sixth place. Canada’s E. Hosking falls during her performance, before Spain’s Queralt C. falls. China’s Cia Xuetong is in third place position. But Japan’s Rise Kudo takes over third place position. USA’s Maddie Mastro leans back on her land and falls back. Japan’s Sara Simizu falls. USA’s Chloe Kim falls while performing difficult tricks. During Run 3, Bea Kim falls on her landing, which puts her in sixth place position. Japan’s Sena Tomita falls. Canada’s E. Hosking falling, but she eventually gets up on her own. Spain’s Queralt C. appears to be performing well until she leans backward toward the end and falls back, which puts her in eighth place position. China’s Cai X., Japan’s Rise Kudo, and USA’s Maddie Mastro fall during their performance. Japan’s Sara Simizu is in fourth place, and she is the youngest performer in this Halfpipe Final. Korea’s Choi Ga-On wins Gold. Even though Chloe Kim falls during her Run 3 performance, one of her other two scores is high, and she wins a Silver. Japan’s Mitsuki Ono wins Bronze.

Women’s Short Track 500M Final B: The race stopped after a couple of seconds because skaters need to change their blades. Canada and Korea seem to be ahead, but China, USA, and Netherland crash into each other. In the Final Run, Italy’s A. Fontana, Netherland’s S. Poutsma, Canada’s C. Sarault, Canada’s K. Boutin, and Netherland’s Xander Velzeboer race together. At the end, Xander Velzeboer wins Gold, Italy’s Arianna Fontana wins Silver, and Canada’s Courtney Sarault wins Bronze.

Men’s Speed Skating 1000M Final: After a couple of races between five different men, the top five speed-skaters in the final race for a medal incude Canada’s Dandjinou, China’s Sun Long, Latvia’s Kruzbergs, Korea’s Rim Jongun, and Netherland’s Jens van ‘Twout. Netherland’s Jens van ‘Twout wins Gold, China’s Sun Long wins Silver, and Korea’s Rim Jongun wins Bronze.

Tesero Cross Country Women’s 10KM: During Lap 1, the top skiers appear to be Sweden’s E. Andersson, France’s L. Perry, Sweden’s F. Karlsson, Sweden’s M. Ilar, and USA’s J. Diggins. During Lap 2 and 3, Karlsson and Ilar remain ahead of the group. Italy’s Di Cent and Canada’s Gagnon are following. Lativa’s P. Eiduka and Norway’s Weng are following the front group. Germany’s Fink is nearby. Diggins and Andersson move ahead, pushing toward the finish line. The dramatic finish included Norway’s Weng, Czech’s Janatova, France’s L. Perry, Sweden’s E. Ribon, and Canada’s Mackie. Norway’s Weng, Sweden’s Karlsson, Sweden’s Andersson, USA’s Diggins, and Norway’s Slind fight to be the top three at the finish line. Sweden’s Frida Karlsson wins Gold, Sweden’s Ebba Andersson wins Silver, and USA’s Diggins win Bronze. All the skiers collapse to the snow-covered ground after they cross the finish line, trying to catch their breath. They appeared to have some kind of pain, as well as probably suffering from dehydration.

Snowboarding Cross Final: 4 Snowboarders race down a hill. Canada, Austria, USA, and Italy. Austrian Alessandro Haemmerle, Canadian Eliot Grondin, Austrian Jakob Dusek, France’s Aidan Chollet, and USA’s Nick Baumgartner. France is head, followed by Canada, Austria, and Austria. Alessandro Haemmerle wins Gold, followed by Eliot Grondin, who wins Silver, and Jakob Dusek wins Bronze. 44-year-old Nick Baumgartner was in seventh place. He enjoyed snowboarding with the young men because it is his hobby.

Women’s Super-G: Switzerland’s Blanc is in second place, while Italy’s Pirovano is in first place. Italy’s Brignone takes over first place, and she remains in first place, as other skiers try to beat her score. Germany’s Aicher didn’t score well, while Czech’s Ledecka falls. Italy’s S. Goggia didn’t score high, while Austria’s C. Huetter is in second place. Austria’s A. Raedler is in fourth place. France’s Miradoli is now in second place. USA’s Breezy Johnson crashes into the net on the side. Her boyfriend proposes marriage and she accepts. USA’s J. Wiles is in thirteenth place position. Therefore, Italy’s Federica Brignone wins Gold, France’s Romane Miradoli wins Silver, and Austria’s Cornelia Huetter wins Bronze.

Women’s 5000M Speed Skating Results: Italy’s Francesca Lollobrigida wins Gold, Norway’s Ragne Wiklund wins Silver, and Netherland’s Merle Conjin wins Bronze.
