The honour places him in an elite global list that includes legendary figures like Queen Elizabeth II and Nelson Mandela. He received 28 plus awards and still counting. Truly, it is more than a personal recognition. The award symbolises the depth of India–Oman relations, which stretch back centuries through maritime trade across the Arabian Sea.

Modi Receives Oman’s Highest Honor During State Visit to Muscat

The ceremony carried both historical and emotional significance. Oman and India have shared cultural, commercial, and people-to-people ties long before modern diplomacy existed. Traders, sailors, and scholars moved freely between the two regions, shaping mutual respect and trust. By honouring Prime Minister Modi, Oman acknowledged not just India’s leadership today but also the enduring friendship between the two nations.

Honoured to receive the Order of Oman (First Class). My gratitude to His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, the Government and people of Oman for this honour. This is a symbol of affection and trust between the people of India and Oman.

A key highlight of the visit was the signing of the India–Oman Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). This landmark deal grants zero-duty access on nearly all of Oman’s tariff lines for 99 percent of India’s exports. Sectors such as textiles, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, engineering goods, and food products stand to benefit greatly. The agreement is expected to boost exports, create jobs, and strengthen supply chains between the two economies.

Therefore, Prime Minister Modi described the agreement as a “future-ready partnership”. Also, Modi emphasised that CEPA will open new opportunities for Indian businesses while also supporting Oman’s economic diversification goals. Leaders from both countries highlighted that the pact aligns with global shifts toward resilient trade and sustainable growth, especially at a time when international markets are rapidly changing.

Another powerful moment of the visit came when Modi interacted with thousands of members of the Indian diaspora in Oman. As chants of his name echoed through the venue, the Prime Minister thanked the community for acting as a bridge between the two countries. He praised their contribution to Oman’s development and encouraged them to remain active partners in India’s growth story. The warmth of the interaction reflected the strong emotional bond overseas Indians share with their homeland.

During business meetings, Modi urged Omani and Indian investors to explore opportunities in green energy, startups, digital innovation, and infrastructure. He highlighted India’s rapid progress in renewable energy and entrepreneurship, inviting collaboration that could benefit both nations. Omani leaders welcomed the proposal, noting that such partnerships would support employment and technological advancement.

Furthermore, the visit gained additional importance as it coincided with the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Oman. Officials from both sides described the moment as a turning point that strengthens strategic cooperation in trade, energy security, maritime safety, and regional stability. The Order of Oman, therefore, stood as a symbol of trust, continuity, and shared vision for the future.

Moreover, with this recognition, Narendra Modi reached another remarkable milestone in his global diplomatic journey. He has now received more than 25 international awards, reflecting India’s growing influence on the world stage and his role in strengthening bilateral ties across continents. Below is a snapshot of some of the major honours conferred upon him by different countries.
